Dr. Burckardt is an otolaryngologist, but specializes in surgical and medical treatment of voice, airway, and swallowing disorders. Dr. Burckardt completed a fellowship in Laryngeal Surgery through Harvard Medical School at Massachusetts General Hospital Center for Laryngeal Surgery and Voice Rehabilitation with world renowned voice surgeon, Dr. Steven Zeitels. She is the first in Kentucky to use cutting edge KTP laser ablation to treat early vocal cord cancers. What to expect from a visit to our office
Dr. Burckardt will perform a comprehensive history and physical exam as relevant to your specific concern. If indicated, a flexible or rigid videostroboscopy will be performed to better evaluate your throat
A videostroboscopy is a state-of-the-art technology which facilitates the identification of various vocal cord conditions and abnormalities. It provides a magnified view of the larynx, and simulates slow-motion vibration of the vocal cords. This procedure is the gold-standard in laryngological diagnostic care. We are happy to be one of the only centers in the state to offer this technology.
The examination takes only a matter of seconds to minutes and is comfortable enough to not require sedation.
All examinations are recorded. Following completion of the exam, you and your family will be able to review the results together with Dr. Burckardt. For more information regarding stroboscopy, please visit our FAQ page.
